After Hurricane Sandy: Donation Information

Thanks to social media like Facebook, so many pages have been developed after Hurricane Sandy. I don't "Like" every single page I come across - I scan through the page first to see the timeliness of posts, information offered and engagement on the page. One of the pages I came across is the "Hurricane Information & Donation Locations."  One of their recent posts was a list of the basic necessity items (with some brands) needed by people in shelters and those affected by the storm. The list is based on the Facebook page administrators observations and comments - They also added: "Please feel free to add to this! To the companies tagged in this post, please feel free to lend a hand - it will not go unrecognized! PLEASE SHARE."

Two organizations accepting fund contributions are The American Red Cross and The Salvation Army. Locally, in New York and New Jersey areas, people have also banded together to donate their own home goods and clothing to local churches and shelters. Many of the locations in need of donations have been shared on Twitter.

IN NEW YORK:
For more locations in need of donations in the QUEENS borough area in New York, please read: Donate to Queens victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Besides donating funds and goods, you can also volunteer your time. For a list of projects and locations go to: New York Cares: Hurricane Sandy Disaster Response.

IN NEW JERSEY:
If you live in Cape May County, Atlantic County or Ocean County, New Jersey and need assistance or if you would like help by donating your time, clothing and/or food then click here for info on: Shore Helpers.

For a list of food pantries and related assistance programs operated by sponsoring organizations in Cape May County, NJ as shared on Cape may County Herald see: Food Pantries, Related Assistance Available

As of yesterday and up and running click here to Donate to the: Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.

Another list of sources for donation information was posted at NBC's RockCenter. Click to read info here: Hurricane Sandy: How You Can Help.
Also check out the list from TIME: Sandy's Aftermath: How to help.

The massive Tide truck has arrived in NJ Saturday. For Hurricane Sandy victims, Tide will wash your clothes for free. They are looking to help in additional locations as well. Tide began washing clothes Saturday November 3 at Lowe’s 118 New Jersey 35 Eatontown, NJ 07724. Clothing was accepted starting at 8am ET and was/is limited to 2 loads of clothing per family/per day.

And don't forget: All day Monday November 5 is "Day of Giving" - Disney & the ABC network have teamed up with the Red Cross to hold a ‘Day of Giving’ to raise money for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. The ABC network is  encouraging people to donate to the Red Cross during their programming today, kicking off on Good Morning America. You can also follow along on Twitter at #DayOfGiving.Your donation will help provide meals, shelter and hope to families who need it most.

 (Ironically) Pleasantville, NJ
Entire neighborhoods have been rearranged by hurricane-force winds and waves. One-story bungalows, lifted off their sand foundations, came to rest a full block from where they were built, while more recent two-and three-story homes are now see-through structures, their contents – furniture, appliances, even wallboard and flooring – hauntingly absent. ADDITIONAL INFO:
People have also been sharing gas station locations with power + gas and minimum wait. As for New Jersey gasoline, it's like the gas rations I remember from the 70's: If your license plate ends in an odd number, you can get gas on ODD number DAYS -- The same goes for even end number license plates can get gas on EVEN days.

In Long Beach Island, New Jersey residents will have a "Grab and Go" day Monday November 5 and Tuesday November 6. Click to read about this at: The Press of Atlantic City.

 Thanks for stopping by...
